Love       By Roger Altenberg

One of the most beautiful
        things is love.
Wherever it is God looks
        down and smiles from
                above.
For love is heaven even
        with strife.
Love is beautiful and love
        is life.
On the battlefield two
        brothers may be dying,
Side by side they are lying,
Each with a tenderness for
        the other,
Each with a love for one
        another.
There souls now rise to
        the kingdom of God,
And their bodies are buried
        under the sod.
Faithful to each other they
        were,
And now they are above,
And in their souls lies
        that love,
And nothing can stop it,
Not even death.
For love lives on forever.
