This is the kind of Swing dance that Gen-X has now brought back, straight from Harlem, with all its original wildness and hipness. Swing scenes are cooking now in every major city in the country, and we'll create a little one right in this class. You'll learn every kind of move, from steamy to cool. This is Lindy Hop and East Coast Swing, Savoy style, beginning at the beginning. Music from Duke Ellington to the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Bring a water bottle, towel, and your dancing shoes. No partner needed.
Lee Altenberg got started Swing dancing in the thriving scene of Durham, NC, in the early 90s, and has studied Lindy Hop with Frankie Manning, Erin Stevens, and Steven Mitchell. In Nashville he taught Swing dance last year to college and high school students, and has begun teaching on Maui this year. He has also studied Modern dance since 1990, African dance since 1996, and played horn in the UC Berkeley jazz big band before discovering the dance floor.
