The Maui Symphony Jazz Big Band, with 20 pieces, guest musicians from Oahu, and Louise Lambert and Jonathan Eden vocals.

Napili Gardens at The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort, 200 Nohea Kai Dr., Kaanapali

WHEN:

New Year's Eve, 8:30pm December 31, 1999 to 1am, January 1, 2000

WHAT:

"Dancing under the stars", on the flagstone patio. The size of the dance space has yet to be determined.

COST:

$200, reservations required, call 667-4727.

Editor's Note:

Many of the family members of the musicians will be celebrating the event on the beach walk near the Napili Gardens, which is open to the public.

Event #2:

WHO:

The Molina Brothers Band

WHERE:

Lehua Lounge at the Kapalua Bay Hotel, 1 Bay Dr., Kapalua

WHEN:

New Year's Eve, 9:30pm December 31, 1999 to 1am, January 1, 2000

WHAT:

Dancing (on a 700 square-foot tile & marble floor), champagne, and "a chocolate lover's midnight dessert buffet extravaganza".

COST:

$50 tickets at the door, no reservations. The dance is free to Y2K diners at either the Gardenia Court or the Bay Terrace, but dinner reservations are almost full.

Editor's Note:

It is not always guaranteed that event organizers will provide enough dancing floor space for their crowds. I roughly estimate that 700 square feet can handle no more than 20 Swing dancing couples, and 1500 feet about 45 couples. Caveat emptor.
