Swing Dance Social: These Swing Dance Social have been great successes, so we're continuing this format...A little party for people to savor Presidents' Day, practice their moves, and meet people. The Swing Dance Social is for the whole community, not just the participants in the MSDS meeting.
----> Special Showing: From 8-8:15pm, Lee Altenberg will show 15 minutes of Lindy Hop clips, including "Dancing: New Worlds, New Forms" (documentary), "Gotta Dance" (1995), and Frankie Manning dancing at his 80th Birthday party (1994).
MSDS Agenda: The Maui Swing Dance Society is holding is kickoff Swing Dance, "Swingin' at Club McCoy", at the McCoy Theater of the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Date: Friday, March 3, 2000; Time: 6:30-9:30 pm. So now we just need to put on the show! Here are some specific jobs that need to be filled:
- Two people to train as disk jockeys to run the sound system.
- People to sell tickets at the door and sign up new MSDS members.
- A treasurer to keep books on Maui Swing Dance Society revenues and expenditures.
Other tasks:
- Publicizing the event.
- Someone with equipment to cut some playlist CDs for the dances, to simplify the DJing task. For sources, I have a good collection of Swing (20s-50s jazz, Country Swing, 40s-50s Rhythm and Blues, Rockabilly) but I am limited in music for West Coast Swing, and perhaps someone can fill in there.
Other Agenda Items:
- Making Swing Dance Socials regular MSDS events.
- Adopting a formal structure - bylaws, means for revenue, membership fees, etc.
DIRECTIONS:
- From Hana highway: Proceed 2 miles past Ho'okipa Look-out, turn right onto Haiku Road. Go 1.5 miles into Haiku. In downtown
Haiku, Kokomo road starts at the Haiku Marketplace. From the

State Park will be on the left. The next left-past the park-is Kapii
