TIME:
  • Registration: 1-1:30pm
  • Class 1 (Introduction): 1:30-3:30 pm
  • Class 2 (continuation): 3:30-5:30 pm
* Class 1 will be suitable for absolute beginners. Yet Class 1 will have much to offer even seasoned Swing dancers because of Steven's attention to style and detail.
COST PER CLASS: $30.
TEENS (and younger) GET IN FOR HALF PRICE.
DISCOUNTS: Per Class: $5 off if pre-registered, $5 off if a member of the Maui Swing Dance Society, $10 off if both pre-registered and MSDS member. You get yourself half price if you pre-register 3 others.

The entrance to the Maui Academy of Performing Arts is through the rear of old National Dollar Building. Parking is convenient in the lot at 99 S. Market St., Wailuku.

Steven Mitchell is one of the foremost Lindy Hop teachers in the world. He is in great demand internationally for his talents as an inspiring dancer, teacher, and choreographer.€ Lindy Hop is the ancestor to all of today's forms of Swing Dancing and Jitterbug. Steven integrates the authentic "Savoy" styling of the 30's (named after the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, where it all started) with a vast repertoire of classic and original steps.

Last year Steven, Erin Stevens, and Frankie Manning gave a week-long Lindy Hop workshop in Honolulu. Frankie invented Lindy Hop aerials in 1935 and choreographed many Swing scenes in movies in the '30s and '40s. Erin and Steven convinced him 15 years ago to come out of retirement and teach Lindy Hop to a whole new generation.

Originally from Pasadena and now based in Germany, Steven choreographs for a number of major dance companies (modern and jazz) all across Europe. His performances span AMC-TV to the White House. To find out more about this cat, here are some links:
