The Maui Dance Council presents:

Assane Kouyate of Senegal
teaching classes of
West African Senegalese dance

Swing dance was created by the African-American community of Harlem in the 1920s-1930s, and it inherits the African movement vocabulary that that survived slavery and the African diaspora. Studying traditional African dance can help one bring this movement heritage into one's own body, and greatly enrich one's style and improvisation in Swing dance.
