All instructors from
Maui have decided to join efforts and centralize their communications into a
one and only announcements list. This will let everybody know of all lessons
and activities strengthening our relationships and favoring mutual exchange.
Another benefit is that being only one list the chance of receiving the same
message several times is remote. The name of the list is MauiTango-NEWS
and will be hosted at yahoo groups. The dynamic is going to be very similar to
the list you are used to but with the difference that instructors will be able
to post directly without my intervention.
Unifying criteria
for attempting something like this is not easy and it’s been in the making for
quite a while. This have caused some misunderstandings and misleading messages
in the past. I want to apologize for that and congratulate all our instructors
for putting their differences apart and work together for the benefit of our
community.
You can join the
list by simply sending a blank email to MauiTango-NEWS-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
and replying the confirmation notice. It is very simple but necessary.
MauiTango-NEWS is an
announcements only list, and as the name suggests, it concerns only activities
in Maui. Only instructors and event organizers will be allowed to post messages
so if you want further information you will need to follow the contact
information provided in the original post. If you are interested in being able
to post messages directly please contact me in private.
Instructors will
post their announcements in HawaiiTango-NEWS and their usual distribution list
until January 15th, 2008. After that HawaiiTango-NEWS should
prevail. This gives everybody plenty of time to do the transition.
Some of you might be
also interested in a further exchange, with the ability to post and share
information, music, videos, writings, comments and experiences. If you are one
of us you are welcome to join our sister list, HawaiiTango-CHAT.
In a similar manner, you can join the list by simply sending a blank email to HawaiiTango-CHAT-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
and replying the confirmation notice. Those of you subscribed already don’t
need to take any action.
HawaiiTango-CHAT
will remain open to all islands and is the ideal tool for instructors and organizers
from all islands to reach our Tango community state and country wide, as we
have already members not only from other islands but from the mainland too.
Here they can participate us of events out of the ordinary, like the Tango
Fests or the visit of renowned instructors and artists from outside the state.
It is also an excellent resource for those visiting our islands to get in touch
with Dancers and events in the area of your destination.
Here I present you
with two different options that complement each other. The first one,
announcements only, restricted to activities in Maui. The second, an open but
organized and moderated forum, embracing all the islands into one solid and
expanding community.
Membership is free
and open to everybody interested in our tango activities in the Hawaiian
Islands, but in order to keep spammers out I will act as a moderator. If I find
your email address unclear or somehow suspicious, I may send you a confirmation
email to verify you are a real person before approval. I have been using this
method with great success for several years in other lists I manage.
Unfortunately I can’t subscribe all of you to the new list because of the security restrictions of yahoo groups. Remember, it is your responsibility to subscribe yourselves to the list of your interest. The process is fast and easy enough for everyone to follow. It is my intention to make this transition as smooth as possible so feel free to contact me if you have any problems.
