Tango Workshop and Milongas

June 8-11, 2006
JOAQUIN CANAY, was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the age of 16 he began to study tango under the tutelage of Oscar Caballero at "La Casona de Marta" in the Olivos Neigborhood. With Oscar help his tango grew step by step and, being supported by his adoptive aunt Marta and the people of the North side of Buenos Aires, he soon fell in love with it. Marta Echeverry, Adrian & Sandra, the Blanco Family, Cesar & Isabel Fernandez, Davel, Maria & Roberto Contreras and the people of "La Casa de la Jeventud" and "La Casona de Marta" have also had a significant impact on his development as a dancer. He moved to the US in 2001 and to Ithaca in September of 2003. Since then he has been teaching in Ithaca, Geneva and Rochester. His style, a traditional "close embrace" or "milonguero" as danced in the salons of Buenos Aires, gives one a strong foundation for social dancing. His gentle and enthusiastic approach to teaching creates classes one can look forward to.
