Study: Cell Phones in Rural Areas More Likely to Cause Cancer 5/18/05 - 2:14 AM ET By Max Whiteside (andPOP) - The risk of brain tumors among cell phone users in rural areas is much higher than in cities, according to a Swedish study released this week. Headed by Professor Lennart Hardell of the University Hospital in Orebro, the study found that residents of rural areas who used mobile digital phones for more than three years were over three times as likely to be diagnosed with a brain tumor as those living in urban areas. "The stronger the signal, the higher the risk," he said. The chance of getting a brain tumor, which can lead to cancer, is quadrupled if cell phones were used for more than five years. |
